Navadarshanam Annual Day on 26th January, 2023

Theme: The growing disconnect with nature

As we humans traverse the Anthropocene in what could well be a brief passage into temporal oblivion, there will perhaps be the fleeting sense of sadness that we squandered away one of the greatest gifts of creation – our self-aware rational thinking mind and its sense of relationship to nature. The humility and awe that deeply endeared the planet to us ever more as our only home after seeing the images of the pale blue dot seem like a distant memory – it certainly did not cause us to dramatically shift priorities to protect and nurture this planet that we call home. At the heart of this is a growing and profound disconnect with nature and the loss of the sense of the grand interconnectedness of things.

Please join us in this discussion as we look at three examples of the manifestation of this disconnect and examine the implications:

  • Planetary level – the audacity of the push for geo-engineering ideas despite our dismal track record in far simpler ideas of planetary stewardship
  • Societal or community level – the pandora’s box of genetically modified foods and the extraordinary claims without extraordinary evidence
  • Individual level – getting ourselves ensnared in the regimen of modern medicine for lifestyle diseases
