Water Harvesting and Management

The focus on other aspects of infrastructure and an availability of ground water delayed some of our initiatives in the area of sustainable water management practices. However the last decade has witnessed reduction in ground water reserves and irregularities and deficiencies in the rainfall and created enough urgency for us to bring that into focus. We have implemented policies and systems in the area of water management guided by the following principles:

  • Reduce domestic use of water and bring it in alignment with the Indian rural average of 40 liters per day per person
  • Utilize structural water harvesting systems to capture and store all rainwater roof runoff for domestic use
  • Design earthworks for broad scale water harvesting to recharge the landscape
  • Reduce reliance on ground water for all uses
