At Navadarshanam, our approach towards energy and buildings has been guided by the following principles:

• First, we had worked on reducing our needs for power to the extent possible in terms of our life style
• Whatever limited needs of power we have, we have endeavored to generate locally using alternate technologies and traditional systems – to that end the campus is off the public power grid
• The architecture and construction of our buildings is similarly guided by the need to minimize material and energy foot print, use of local materials to the extent possible and the need to keep things on a human scale and avoid mechanized tools and processes.
